Gators Survive Four-Setter Against Toros

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO -- Looking for a spark after a seven-match winless streak, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team welcomed back Alijah Gunsaulus to the line-up, but it wasn't enough as host San Francisco State took a four-set win tonight in The Swamp.

With the loss, CSUDH dips to 8-14, 1-13 CCAA.

The Toros made an early statement in the opener as an Elizabeth Krieger kill gave CSUDH a 10-6 lead, with an SFSU error later in the set upping the Toro edge to 15-10.

The hosts, however, ran off five consecutive points to knot the set at 15-all, and added seven more points to take control of the frame at 22-15 before the eventual 25-19 win.

SFSU carried over its momentum in the second set, turning a 7-7 tie into a 20-7 cushion in the 25-12 win to take a two-sets-to-none lead.

After the break, however, the Toros refused to fold, holding their own early edge at 5-2 and strtetching it to a 17-12 lead on a Gator error en route to a 25-20 win to cut their deficit in half.

In the fourth, however, it was all SFSU as the hosts took a 6-1 lead and never looked back in the 25-15 win.

Gunsaulus finished with 8 kills to lead CSUDH, with Krieger adding 6 and Corissa Santos and Tarryn Luafalemana 5 each.

Though CSUDH put up 8 blocks compared to 4 for SFSU, the hosts hit .203 while holding the Toros to just .099 in the four-setter.

CSUDH will look to snap its skid tomorrow night at No. 14 Sonoma State, which took down CSULA 3-1 tonight.
