Sebastian Cortez led a flurry of Toro scorers in today's win at Sonoma State
Box Score

ROHNERT PARK -- Coming off a pair of 2-1 setbacks for the first two losses of the year, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team regained its focus against arch-rival Sonoma State this afternoon, and the result was a convincing 5-0 win over the Seawolves.

The win matches the most lopsided victory over the Seawolves that occured on October 1, 2006 in a 5-0 decision in Carson, and moves the Toros to 6-2-2, 4-2-2 CCAA.

While both teams fired nine shots each in the opening half, it was Cal State Dominguez Hills that held a 2-0 lead at the half, thanks to a pair of goals within four minutes of each other.  The first came at 32:38 by Sebastian Cortez, followed by a superman-like header by Jio Santana at 36:31 for the two-goal lead.

The Seawolves controlled possession for much of the second half, but the Toros took advantage of their chances and quickly added two more goals to lead 4-0 with just over 28 minutes left in regulation as Aaron Salazar's shot from 8 yards out and Miguel Vazquez's shot that tipped off a Seawolf defender and into the net.

While SSU outshot CSUDH 11-5 in the second half, only three would be on target, with Toro netminder Trey Mitchell making stops on all three.

The fifth and final goal by the visitors came at the 86:47 mark when Sonoma State took down a defender in the box, allowing Tim Harty to step up and convert the ensuing penalty kick.

SSU held a 20-14 shot advantage and a 8-0 edge in corner kicks, but fell to second place in the CCAA North Division standings, three points behind Cal State Monterey Bay.

CSUDH returns home next weekend for hosting duties, beginning on Friday against CS Stanislaus in the Stub Hub Center's Main Stadium.
