Toros Get Back on Winning Track After 2-0 Win at CSUSB

Box Score

SAN BERNARDINO -- Senior Aaron Salazar connected for his 10th goal of the year with a score in the 28th minute, and that proved to be the game-winner as the Toros snapped a 3-match winless streak with a 2-0 win over CS San Bernardino.

With the victory, CSUDH improves to 9-4-3, 7-4-3 CCAA.  Unfortunately, with Cal State L.A. and Chico State tying and UC San Diego winning on Sunday, the Toros were mathematically eliminated from CCAA tournament contention by virtue of a North Division school gaining an automatic bid, and the three aformentioned teams earning enough points to qualify with one weekend left in the regular season.

The game was scorless at the 27:00 minute mark when Jose Vaca found Salazar on the ride side of the net, with Salazar's blast wrong-footing Coyote keeper Roberto Gonzalez and finding paydirt to the left for a 1-0 lead at 27:36.

That's where the score remained until five minutes left in the half when Miguel Vazquez blasted a 35-footer that got by Gonzalez for a 2-0 lead entering the half.

Each defense buckled down after the break although the Toro offense kept firing en route to a 21-6 shot advantage for the game, keeping the scoreboard inactive in the 2-0 Toro win.

Jio Santana led all players with 5 shots including 3 on frame, with Santana's lone shot on goal finding paydirt.

CSUDH keeper Trey Mitchell picked up the win with two saves made as the Toros completed the regular season sweep after a 1-0 win earlier in Carson.

The Toros, currently the 5th-seeded team in the NCAA west, will conclude their regular season at top-seeded Cal State L.A. next Friday, before a Sunday match-up at Cal Poly Pomona.
