No. 24 Chico State Takes 3-1 Win Over Toros

Box Score

CHICO -- With the first NCAA regional poll of the year placing Chico State at No. 2 and Cal State Dominguez Hills at No. 5, seeds held to form tonight as the No. 24 Wildcats took a 3-1 win over the Toros in a key division contest.

Alejandro Covarrubias netted the lone goal for the Toros in tonight's loss that dropped CSUDH to 8-4-3, 6-4-3 CCAA.

It didn't take long for the Wildcats to score as a Kramer Runager header went just over the outstretched arms of Toro keeper Markus Dickerson, with another CSUC score nine minutes later giving the hosts a quick 2-0 lead, where it remained through the half.

After the break, a Covarrubias shot from 35 weaved through a crowd and found the back of the net to cut the CSUC lead to 2-1.

Kramer, however, added his second goal of the night with under four minutes left in regulation, putting the icing on the proverbial cake in the intense battle.

This gives the Wildcats a regular season sweep of the Toros after CSUC took a 2-1 win in Carson in late September.

CSUDH will look to get back in the win column on Sunday at CS San Bernardino, with first kick set for 11:30 am.
