No. 13 Cal State L.A. Blanks Toros 2-0 on Senior Day

Box Score

CARSON -- Visiting and 13th-ranked Cal State L.A. earned two second half goals, and they proved enough en route to a 2-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on the Toros' Senior Day.

With the loss that snaps CSUDH's four-match unbeaten streak, the Toros fall to 8-3-3, 6-3-3 CCAA, while CSULA improves to 10-1-3, 8-1-3 CCAA.

The game was an intense struggle befitting a rivalry between schools just 18 miles apart as the teams combined for just 13 shots in a scoreless first half of play.

That all changed seven minutes after the break after Juan Ochoa lined up for a free kick, and sent his shot untouched through a wicket of white and cardinal jerseys, enough to screen Toro keeper Trey Mitchell from seeing the ball as it went by him and into the net for a 1-0 lead at 52:39.

CSULA then doubled its advantage 18 minutes later as Tobias Tobrant sent a long ball to the outside box where Andre Bissmark collected and sent a left-footed screamer past Mitchell and into the net.

Mitchell finished with 4 saves while CSULA keeper Mike Beigarten made 2, with the Toros out-shooting the visitors 18-14, while being out-cornered 5-3.

Prior to the game, the Toros honored nine seniors playing in their final regular season game in Toro Stadium as Markus Dickerson, Joseph Fernandez, Jordan Hatanaka, Mitchell, Ernie Ramos, Aaron Salazar, Jio Santana, Wyatt Stucker, and Miguel Vazquez received rounds of applause before the starting line-ups were introduced.

The Toros travel to Chico State to begin a regular season ending four-game road trip, with first kick set for 7 pm in Chico.
