Baseball Season Kicks Off Friday Against Academy of Art

CARSON -- Itching to get the taste of 2012 out of their collective mouths after a 14-34 overall and 10-30 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association play led to an 11th-place finish in league play, the 2013 Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball season gets underway tomorrow at high noon as the Academy of Art visits Carson for the first of three games this weekend.

Friday's contest will be broadcast on the Toro Sports Network, with David Smock calling all the play-by-play.  You can also follow all three games live via live stats by clicking here.

Under 7th-year head coach Murphy Su'a, this year's Toro squad will look a little unfamiliar to most as Su'a and his staff welcome a whopping 22 newcomers that include 18 junior college transfers, highlighted by CSUF transfer Ivory Thomas, as well as Dimitri De la Fuente, David Haerle and Peter Ives.

Leading the charge for the returners will be senior righty Sean Wardour, the workhorse of last year's team after starting all 13 games played en route to tossing 69.2 innings.

Offensively, seniors Chris Allen and Carlos Avila return for their senior seasons after combining for 86 hits, 42 runs, 18 doubles 4 triples and 4 home runs, also accounting for 12 stolen bases in 19 attempts.

The three-game series will begin with a single on Friday at noon, and a twinbill on Saturday with first pitch of game one set for 11 am on Toro Field.
