Broncos Use Strong First Half to Down Toros, 79-68

Box Score

CARSON --  Six days after giving 13th-ranked Chico State all it could handle, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team found tonight's opponent in Cal Poly Pomona much tougher to deal with as the Broncos opened up a 34-19 first half lead en route to a 79-68 victory tonight in Carson.  Breanne Garcia led the Toros with a career-high 19 points in the loss.

With the loss, the Toros fall to 5-10, 4-7 CCAA, while the Broncos improve to 10-5, 8-3 CCAA.

The visitors jumped out to a 7-0 lead to open the game with a pair of Toro turnovers aiding CPP's cause, before Monay Lee drained a pair of free throws to get the Toros on the board.

CPP took a 34-21 lead before a Breanne Garcia triple brought the Toros to within 34-24 at the 5:37 mark, with the Broncos cooling off from the floor as they made 3-of-12 shots after draining 14-of-18 to start the game en route to a 46-35 lead after the first period of play.

Garcia was a spark plug for the squad, tallying a team-best 11 points, including 4 rebounds, 3 steals, an assist and a blocked shot on a CPP jump shot attempt.

The second half saw the Toros use an 8-2 run to close to gap to just five at 48-43 with under 3 minutes elapsed in the period, only to see CPP repel CSUDH's advance with a 6-0 run to push the lead back to 11 at 54-43 at 15:04.

A Garcia lay-up 30 seconds later brought CSUDH to within ine at 54-45, but that would be as close as it would get as JJ Judge's game-high 21 points would pace four Broncos who scored in double figures.

Jamie Robinson added 12 points in the loss on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor, with Denisha Lundy added 11.

The Toros capitalized on 22 Bronco turnovers to the tune of a 24-to-19 advantage, also taking the steal category, 11 to 6.

Garcia was the Toro catalyst tonight with her hustle and effort, at one point diving over the scorer's table for a loose ball.

The Toros, who have dropped two straight, will host Humboldt State tomorrow night at 5:30 pm after the 'Jacks dropped a 72-70 decision at Cal State L.A. earlier.  The game will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live.
