Toros Storm Back in 64-46 Win at Sonoma State

Box Score

ROHNERT PARK -- Freshman Monay Lee poured in a game- and career-high 29 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the field as Cal State Dominguez Hills responded from last night's subpar effort with a superb one in a 64-46 win at Sonoma State.

CSUDH improves to 4-8, 3-5 CCAA, while SSU falls to 4-8, 2-6 CCAA.

The first half would feature tightly-contested play by both teams, as neither team led by more than three points at any point until the Seawolves claimed a five-point lead on a pair of occasions, the last being a 17-12 advantage with 11:32 to play before halftime.

The Toros came storming back to score seven unanswered points to regain the lead at 19-17 two minutes later.  Both teams traded scoring possessions before Cal State Dominguez Hills would go on a 14-2 run over the final 4:36 to close out the half and lead Sonoma State by 11 points at 34-23.

It was the play of the Toros' Lee that kept CSUDH in control for much of the half, accounting for half of her team's 34 points (17) in the opening period, draining 7 of 11 shots from the floor.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills lead would remain at double-digits the rest of the way, with a jumper by CSUDH's Julia Poecksteiner bringing the the Toro lead to 10, where it remained the rest of the game.

The Toros led by as much as 25 with 2:49 left in regulation before the game would end in an 18-point loss for SSU.

Poecksteiner followed with 17 as she and Lee combined to score as many points as the entire SSU squad.  The Toros hit 41.5 percent of their attempted shots (27-65).

CSUDH will return home for the first of six-consecutive games on Friday, hosting CS Stanislaus before welcoming head coach Molly Goodenbour's former team in Chico State on Saturday.  Both contests will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network.
