Sizzling Offense Fuels 71-56 Win at Sonoma State

Box Score

ROHNERT PARK -- Junior DeShaun Freeman drained 7 of his 11 shots on the night to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills as the Toros shot 56.9% from the field en route to a 71-56 win over Sonoma State tonight in the Wolves' Den.

With the win, the Toros improve to 8-7, 4-4 CCAA, while the Seawolves drop to 5-7, 3-5 CCAA.

Both teams started hot to open the contest, tying six times before the Toros scored eight unanswered points to take an 8-point lead up the contest, courtesy of 5 points by Mitrell Clark and 3 by Alex Strauther.

A pair of free throws by Myron Green gave CSUDH its first double-digit lead at 29-19 with just under 5 minutes left in the half, only to see the hosts use a 16-8 run to close to gap to just 37-35 entering the half.

Sensing live in the Seawolves, the Toros quickly quelled SSU's rally after four points by Lamine Diame and two by Freeman, with a triple by Pierson Williams at the 15:38 mark giving CSUDH another double-figure lead at 50-39.

SSU managed to trim its deficit to 50-48 on a Will Olsem lay-up five minutes later, but the Toros again found their hot hand and pushed the lead back to 10 on a Ramon Williams fast-break hoop with 4:23 left in regulation.

A jumper by Freeman increased CSUDH's lead to 14, and a flush by Ramon Williams with 41 ticks left gave the Toros the final points of the game, and the final margin of victory.

Green added 10 points as the Toros drained 29-of-51 shots from the field in the win.

The Toros dominated the board en route to a 35 to 21 edge, with no Seawolf managing more than 3 boards.

CSUDH returns home next weekend to host CS Stanislaus, with Friday's first tip set for 7:30 pm.  The contest will be streamed live on the Toro Sports Network.
