Frigid Start Dooms Toros in 75-59 Loss to Gators

Box Score
SAN FRANCISCO -- Host San Francisco State jumped out to a commanding 22-6 lead less than eight minutes into tonight's contest, and that deficit proved too big a hole for the Toros to climb out of in an eventual 75-59 loss to the Gators.  Jamie Robinson led CSUDH with 16 points in the defeat.

The Toros fall to 3-8, 2-5 CCAA with the loss, while SFSU improves to 7-4, 4-3 CCAA.

Things started slow for the visitors after the Gators scored the game's first 7 points, and didn't get any better in the first half as SFSU took its 16 point lead with 12:42 left in the opening period.

A 9-0 run, with 7 points courtesy of Monay Lee, brought CSUDH to 22-13, only to see the Gators reach a 16-point lead twice more in the half before setling for a 41-29 edge at halftime.

After the break, a Denisha Lundy triple cut CSUDH's deficit to single digits at 43-34 just under two minutes in, but SFSU again got hot, pushing its lead to 17 on a Desiree Collins tip-in and to a game-high 18 with just under 10 minutes left in regulation.

The never-say-die Toros caught their own fire late, using another Lundy triple to bring CSUDH back to 63-55 with 6:22 left, but the Gators were too strong tonight, outscoring CSUDH 12-4 for the final margin.

Lee finished with 15 points as the Toros shot just 31.3% from the floor, including just 29.4% from downtown.

The Gators, meanwhile, connected for 49.1% of their attempts, and 41.7% from three.

CSUDH will look to get back in the win column tomorrow in Rohnert Park, taking on Sonoma State at 5:30 pm.
