Poor Second Half Results in 68-52 Road Loss at San Francisco State

SAN FRANCISCO -- Host San Francisco State outscored Cal State Dominguez Hills by 14 in a pivotal second half that saw the Gators take a defensive-minded 68-52 win over the Toros tonight in The Swamp.  DeShaun Freeman led CSUDH with 16 points in the loss.

The Toros fall to 7-7, 3-4 CCAA, while the Gators improve to 7-4, 5-2 CCAA.

After the first three minutes of the opening period saw the teams trade the first 14 points, the hosts took control by scoring the next 9 points, reaching a double-figure advantage twice, the last time coming at 27-17 on a William Overton flush with 3:49 left in the half.

A Ramon Williams bucket and Pierson Williams triple, however, brought the Toros back to within 5 points, and a Lamine Diame free throw bringing the halftime score to 27-23.

CSUDH used that momentum to catch the Gators at 31-all on a Ramon Williams lay-up with just under four minutes elapsed in the second half, but that run was short-lived as SFSU scored the next 8 points to again take control of the game.

The Gators pushed their lead to 12 on a Decensae White triple, and kept the Toros at arm's length the rest of the contest with successful free throw makes in the 68-52 decision.

Pierson Williams finished with 13 points in the loss, with Myron Green adding 9 points.

CSUDH will look to change its fortune tomorrow night as it battles Sonoma State at 7:30 pm.
