Hot Weather Fitting for Hotter Toros in 4-0 Win Over CS East Bay

Box Score
CARSON -- With the temperature reaching as high as 90 degrees on a sunny Sunday afternoon, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team matched that reading with their play on the field en route to a dominating 4-0 win over visiting Cal State East Bay.  Aaron Salazar collected a pair of goals in the win on just three total shots.

With their second-consecutive win, the Toros improve to 3-4-1, 3-3 CCAA, while the Pioneers fall to 1-4-2, 0-3-2 CCAA.

Freshman Sebastian Cortez began the deluge with a score in the first 10 minutes of play, taking a through ball by Salazar and beating CSUEB keeper Bryce Bookhamer near post at the 8:45 mark.

Salazar then took on scoring honors himself with a pair of scores, collecting a Miguez Vazquez pass and carrying the ball into the 6 yard box alone to beat Bookhamer, before collecting another through ball dead center of the goal and blasting a low line drive past Bookhamer for a 3-0 lead.

Senior Christian Soto finished the first-half scoring by chipping his shot over Bookhamer and the Pioneer defense for a 4-0 lead in just 36:54 mintues of play.

A keeper change and clearing of the Toro bench kept the score at 4-0, giving the Toros a much-needed breather, and their largest win of the year.

The Toros out-shot East Bay 14-8, while keeper Trey Mitchell kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard with 4 saves on the day.  Bookhamer and second-half keeper Rene Martinez each finished with 2 saves.

The Toros take to the road next weekend to face UC San Diego and Cal State L.A., before returning home on October 5 to battle San Francisco State in the first of five-consecutive home games.
