Coyotes Pick Up First Win of Year in 2-0 Decision Over Toros

Box Score
SAN BERNARDINO -- Fit to be tied, literally, in the first four matches of the 2012 season, host Cal State San Bernardino picked up its first win of the year in a 2-0 victory over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills, a loss that dropped the Toros to 1-3-1, 1-2 CCAA.  Junior Jio Santana took 5 shots to tie for the team lead in the loss.

With the win, meanwhile, CSUSB improves to 1-0-4, 1-0-2 CCAA.

The visitors managed to out-shoot the hosts 20-18 overall, but sent just 5 attempts on frame compared to 10 by CSUSB.

The contest was scoreless heading after 33 minutes when the Coyotes struck first as Ricardo Velasco collected a free kick and drove his shot past Toro keeper Juan Quiroz.

That's where the score remained until the second half with CSUSB doubled its lead just three minutes after the break.

Leo Mendoza did the honors on this score after driving a 35 yard shot past Quiroz's left for a 2-0 lead, all but seeling the deal for CSUSB.

Sebastian Cortez tied Santana with 5 attempts in the loss, with CSUSB's Velasco notching a game-high 6 shots.

The Toros look to get back on the winning track on Sunday as cross-town rival Cal State L.A. visits Carson for a 2 pm showdown.
