Hall, Jimenez and Vazquez Earn Capital One Academic First-Team All-District Honors

(L-R): Jessica Hall, Stephanie Jimenez and Veronica Vazquez all were named Capital One Academic All-District 1st-team selections
CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills comprised 33.3% of the NCAA Division II 2012 CoSIDA Academic All-District 1st-team selections after juniors Stephanie Jimenez and Jessica Hall joined sophomore Veronica Vazquez as three of nine selections from schools comprising the CCAA, GNAC and PacWest, as voted on by CoSIDA members.

Named the NCAA West Region I Most Outstanding Player after earning all three wins to help the Toros to this weekend's Super Regional against defending NCAA Champion UC San Diego, Jimenez is a communications major who leads her team with a 25-5 record and 1.58 ERA, posting 193 strikeouts against just 34 walks in 204.0 innings of work.

A 1st-team All-CCAA selection after placing in the CCAA's top offensive categories, Jessica Hall is a human services major who has started all but one game this season for the 2012 CCAA Co-Regular Season Champions, and boasts team bests of .355 batting average, 41 runs and 65 hits.

Veronica Vazquez, meanwhile, has been one of the team's lynch pins, starting all 57 games played as a sophomore as a physical education major and contributing a .296 batting average with 40 runs, 50 hits and 29 RBI.

Other 1st-team All-District recipients included UC San Diego's Camille Gaito, Grand Canyon's Vanessa Chavez and Rachel Holtorf, San Francsico State's Cara Spence, Western Washington's Rachelle Berry and CS Monterey Bay's Jamie Moon.

To be considered for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his or her own institution.  Nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's game at the position listed on the nomination form.

With these 1st-team Academic All-District selections, Jimenez, Hall and Vazquez all are eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be chosen later this month.
