Sophomore Veronica Vazquez stepped up to today's challenge with 2 RBI in the win over UCSD
Box Score
CARSON -- One.  More.  Win.  After staging a come-from-behind 4-3 win against defending NCAA Champion UC San Diego in game one of the best-of-three NCAA Super Regional, 10th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills sits one win away from advancing to the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history.  Sophomore Veronica Vazquez provided the big offensive blow with a 2RBI double in the pivotal third inning of play.

The Toros improve to 45-13 on the season, keeping its record at home a perfect 28-0, and needing one more win to match the program record for 46 victories in a season.  The Tritons, meanwhile, fall to 39-21 on the year, with one more loss ending their season.

Tomorrow's action can be heard live on the Toro Sports Network by clicking here, with the Toro pre-game set to commence at 10:45 am.

After taking two from Dixie State to advance to this week's Super Regional that included a mercy run-rule win in the "if necessary" game, UC San Diego continued its hitting spree against Toro starter and San Diego native Lauren Harper, collecting three hits to load the bases in the first before Harper fanned Maria Sykes to end the frame.

UCSD got to Harper two innings later after a Kirsten Willmon triple, one of her three hits on the day, plated Kris Lesofsky, who doubled to lead off the inning for a 1-0 lead.  Three batters later, Sykes redeemed herself with a bases loaded single that brought home two more runs for a 3-0 lead to keep momentum on the visitor's side.

That's when the Toro bats finally awoke, using a Triton one-out error and hit batter to set the stage for Vazquez, who roped a 1-0 pitch from starter Camille Gaito to left center to clear the bases, and bring the Toros within one.

Gaito gave up an RBI single to Stephanie Jimenez but looked to escape the jam tied at 3-3 after inducing an infield pop up by Daisy Beltran, but the ball went off her glove for her second error of the inning, scoring Jimenez in the process for Toros' fourth and final run of the frame.

A Monique Portugal single to start the UCSD fourth prompted Jimenez to enter in the circle, where she set the tone by retiring the next three batters she faced.

Jimenez allowed just two hits in her 4.0 innings of work to pick up the win and improve to 26-5, while Gaito suffered the loss to fall to 22-9.  With her one strikeout, Jimenez tied the CSUDH single-season strikeout mark of 194 set in 2005 by former Toro and Toro pitching coach Valerie Long.

Harper earned the no-decision after 3.0 innings of work, allowing three earned runs and 7 hits.

The two teams go at it again tomorrow morning at 11:00 am, with the Toros needing one victory to win the NCAA West, and the Tritons needing a win to stay alive and force a deciding game.  All the action tomorrow can be heard live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live.
