CARSON -- Toro senior Drew Rodela connected for a grand slam, his first home run of the season, to highlight a 15-8 slugfest win over Biola Unversity in non-conference play Tuesday afternoon.

Cal State Dominguez Hills improves its overall record to 9-19, while the Eagles fall to 17-21.

Matt Montgomery started the nine inning contest for the Toros, allowing just one hit through four innings.

Eagles starter Erick Allen did not anticipate only pitching 1.2 innings, but after facing 10 Toro batters with just two outs recorded in the second, he was relieved after allowing seven runs on seven hits, including four singles, two doubles, and a homerun by junior centerfielder Matthew Young.

In the third inning, Jonathan Cade had little luck against Dominguez Hills' hot bats.  Rodela was clutch with one out, sending a big fly that easily cleared the right center field fence to bring home the once-full bases.

Up 13-0, Biola answered back in the next two innings, scoring eight to make it 13-8 Toros.

Alex Bos came to the mound in the fourth and shut down the Toros through 3.1 innings, until he was taken out of the game after giving up the final two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Rodela led off with a single through the right side followed by a walk by Sako ChapjianChris Allen then reached by the Eagles third baseman that set the table for Matt Akiyama, who slapped a 2RBI single to left field.

Although the Eagles gained more opportunities to score, the Toro defense along with relief pitchers were able to hold their opponents to their eight runs in the 15-8 decision.

Leading offensively was Young who hit 3-for-6 with two runs, three RBI, a double, and a homerun on the afternoon.  Rodela finished the day off 2-for-6 with two runs and four RBI.  Akiyama also batted in three runs after hitting 2-for-5.

Cole Wilson also had a strong start for the Toros batting 2-for-2 with two runs and two runs batted in.

In addition to Young, three Toros in Carlos Avila, Allen, and Chris Vopinek all connected for multiple base hits.

The Toros will play early this week due to the Easter Holiday, hosting Cal State East Bay for a four-game series beginning on Thursday at 3 p.m.  All four games will be broadcast live on the Toro Sports Network at www.GoToros.com/live.
