SEASIDE -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team suffered yet another one-run loss this afternoon in a 6-5 series finale loss at Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday afternoon, coming in the bottom of the ninth in walk-off fashion.

Heading into the final two weeks of conference play, the Toros remain at the bottom of the standings with a CCAA record of 8-24, 12-27 overall.  The Otters, still with hopes of post season play, are now 18-18 in conference and 25-21 overall.

Unlike Saturday's doubleheader, the Toros took the lead first with two early runs.  Matthew Young started the game with a single up the middle.  Carlos Avila then walked, but was left as the only base runner on after Young was caught stealing for only the second time this season.

Sako Chapjian then doubled to advance Avila to third base and place both of them in scoring postition.  Avila then took advantage of a wild pitch to put the Toros on the board with the first run of the game and, after a double by Drew Rodela, the Toros scored their second and final run of the inning.

With two Otter errors in the top of the second the Toros were able to cross home once more for a 3-0 lead, but the Otters answered back after two singles were hit off Toro starter Jonathan Boersma

The tables turned in favor of CS Monterey Bay when they were able to tie up the game with two unearned runs due to a crucial Toro error in the third inning.

Cal State Dominguez Hills was unable to produce any more runs until the eighth inning, but the Otters continued to score and eventually took the lead after scoring a single run in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Unwilling to give in the Toro fought back scoring two runs in the top of the eighth to give the team hopes of gaining control and the win.  The inning began with two consecutive walks by Chris Allen and Matt AkiyamaChris Vopinek then sacrificed both runners into scoring position.

Devon Ramirez, who led the Toro offense with a 2-for-3 day, then singled to the outfield to score both runs and tie the game.

Jonathan Boersma pitched a solid 7.2 innings of work for the Toros with just nine hits and three earned runs allowed.  Hector Gomez was the only one of the CS Dominguez Hills staff to come in as relief.

Gomez was able to shut down the final out of the eighth inning, but couldn't finish the ninth after hitting a batter that inevitably scored the final and winning run for the home team.

In addtion to Ramirez's strong offensive contest, Allen finished the day with two hits and a run scored, while Rodela connected for two hits and one RBI.

Three Toros in Chapjian, Rodela, and Allen were all able to hit for doubles.

With a total of eight attempts, the Toros stole five bases safely with Young and Ramirez stealing two apiece and Avila taking one base.

The Toros will continue road league play next weekend with a trip to face perennial power Chico State.
