Toros Drop Another in Extra Innings, This Time 3-2 (10) at Sonoma State

Box Score
ROHNERT PARK -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team dropped another extra-inning game after falling 3-2 in 10 innings at Sonoma State on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Toros fall to 2-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and 4-9 overall.  The Seawolves remain the conference leaders with a record of 8-2, 10-6 overall.

Sean Wardour was stellar on the mound for the Toros, allowing just two runs on three hits in six innings of work, fanning eight Seawolf batters.

The Toros were first on the board after scoring one run in the top of the first.  Matthew Young led off by reaching on an error and advancing to second on a throwing error.  With one out, Drew Rodela hit his eighth double of the season to score Young from third.

The bottom of the first was where Sonoma scored both of their runs on Wardour.  Once he settled in, however, Wardour shut the Seawolves off from scoring again.

It was deja vu in the fifth as the Toros led off with Chris Vopinek who reached on an error and advanced to second on a bad throw by Sonoma's shortstop.  Devon Ramirez then sacrificed Vopinek to third, before scoring on a Young RBI base knock up the middle, where the score remained after a full nine innings of play.

Reliever Jonathan Boersma came out strong in the 10th getting a quick two outs, but could not hold off the middle of the Seawolf line-up.  Boersma offered up a single, followed by a stolen base before an infield single scored Sonoma's runner from second base.

Young led at the plate for the Toros, hitting 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI on the day.  Drew Rodela recorded his fourth double in three games, while hitting 1-for-4 against Sonoma State.

The Toros will take the field again Saturday for a double-header against Sonoma State in Rohnert Park.  First pitch is at 11 a.m.
