CARSON -- Newcomer Matt Montgomery hurled 4.0 innings of hitless ball in relief, and his offense scored the last three runs to give the Toros a 6-5, 10-inning win over visiting CS Stanislaus to forge a split in today's twinbill after the Warriors took the opener, 7-2.  Matt Akiyama led in the doubleheader hitting 4-for-8 with three runs scored and one batted in.

Cal State Dominguez Hills improves to 5-15 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, 7-17 overall.  The Warriors remain at the .500 mark with an overall record of 11-11, 8-8 in conference play.

In the nightcap the two teams went to extras before a Carlos Avila walk-off double gave the Toros the extra-inning 6-5 win, and the series split.

Once again the Toros were coming from behind early in the game after game four starter Danny Torres allowed two runs in the first three inning, while CSUDH remained scoreless.

In the bottom of the fourth the Toro bats came alive beginning with a single by the designated hitter Sako Chapjian.  Allen then hit an infield single that preceded a Chris Vopinek sacrifice, moving both Toro runners in scoring position when Allen scored on a wild pitch one batter later.

After Ricky Vasquez laced an RBI single with just one out to tie up the game, a bases loaded fielding error gave the Toros a gift run and their first lead of the day.

That euphoria, however, did not last long as the Warriors put up three in their sixth inning at bat to take a 5-3 lead.

Matt Montgomery entered in relief, and benefited as a booming Matthew Young triple tied the game again in regulation.

Montgomery pitched four hitless innings of relief to gain his first win of the year, earning the victory after Avila's late-game heroics.

Akiyama led the Toros at the plate, hitting 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while Toro catcher Cole Wilson was 3-for-4 in the nightcap.

The Warriors took advantage porous Toro defense in the opener, giving starter Nick Planz the hard-luck loss after just 1.2 innings of work.

The Toros managed just single runs in the second and fourth innings, but the Warriors put the game away early after plating six in the first three innings.

A bright spot in the opener was Jonathan Boersma, who pitched 7.1 innings and offered only one earned run on seven hits without a walk.

Chris Vopinek led the Toros with a 2-for-3 effort in the loss.  Vasquez contributed by hitting 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Akiyama finished the game hitting 1-for-3 with an RBI as well.

The Toros will take a break from CCAA play for two weeks, while they play some non-conference opponents, starting with University of Sioux Falls (S.D) on Thursday afternoon.  First pitch is at 3 p.m. on Toro Field.
