Humboldt State Sweeps Season Series After 73-63 Win

ARCATA -- Humboldt State boasted four players in double-figure scoring compared to just one for the Toros en route to a 73-63 win to give the Jacks a regular season sweep of CSUDH.  George McGrew posted 12 points in the loss as the Toros dropped their third straight game.

With the loss, CSUDH falls to 11-8 overall and 10-7 in league play, while HSU improves to 16-5 overall, and 13-5 in the CCAA.

After the last contest in Carson resulted in a thrilling two-point win for the visitors, tonight's contest was decided in the first 20 minutes of play in front of an announced crowd of 1,336.

The 'Jacks rolled to a 40-22 advantage entering the break, nailing 13 of their 26 shots compared to the ice-cold Toros, who managed a 5-of-17 effort in the first stanza.

HSU's lead grew to 20 points just five minutes into the second half before enjoying its largest lead of the night at 64-42 with just 6:29 left in regulation.

The Toros finally found their offense at that point en route to a 15-4 run that closed their deficit to 68-57, but it was too little too late as Humboldt State coasted to the 10-point win.

Randy Hunter led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, and was aided by Brandon Sperline's 16, Kyle Baxter's 12 and Scott Clark's 11.

Van Girard II notched a near double-double of 9 points and 8 rebounds, with Robert Willhite matching Girard's point effort and Cornell Jenkins chipping in 8 points in the loss.

The Toros will look to snap their three-game skid on Saturday as they face Sonoma State, which fell to Cal State L.A. 79-73 earlier this evening.
