Reeling Toros Fall 70-66 at San Francisco State

CSUDH loses sixth of last seven


SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State Dominguez Hills continued its downward spiral after a 70-66 loss at San Francisco State tonight, marking the sixth loss in the Toros' last seven games.  Myron Green (pictured) and Wayne Andrews shared team-high honors with 17 points apiece.

With the loss, SFSU snaps its 15-game losing streak against the Toros dating back to February 5, 2005, an 85-79 win in Carson.


SF State jumped out to a 16-5 lead in the first six minutes of the game, but the Toros went on a 9-0 run to cut the Gator lead to 16-14 at the 11:24 mark of the first half. 

Two made free throws with 6:08 capped an 11-5 run by the Gators as they increased their lead to 27-19.
 
Cal State Dominguez Hills retook the lead as the visitors outscored SF State 15-3 to take a 34-30 lead with just 1:07 left in the half, before the Gators scored the final five points of the half to take a 35-34 lead entering the half.

SF State held the lead up in the second half up until the 8:27 mark of the second half when Robert Willhite's lay-up gave the Toros a 49-48 lead. 

Down two, Matt Cain's two made free throws tied the game at 51-51 with 7:15 to go, but Herndon hit a three to give the Gators a 54-51 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. 
 
The Toros would not go away as they cut the Gator lead to 62-59 on a Robert Willhite jumper with 2:17 left in regulation.
 
SF State finished the game going 8-for-8 from the line including Herndon going 6-for-6 as the Gators hung on for the 70-66 victory.
 

The Toros wrap up their 2011-12 regular season on Friday at Cal Poly Pomona, which was upset at home by Cal State L.A. earlier tonight.
