Warriors Survive in 64-61 Win Over Toros

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills battled back from a 15-point first half deficit and had a chance to tie as regulation wound down, but a 3-point attempt went awry, resulting in a 64-61 Cal State Stanislaus win.  Zipporah Brown led the Toros with 12 points and 5 boards in the loss.

With the win, the Warriors pull ahead of the Toros in conference play with a record of 3-16, while CSUDH falls to 2-17 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.  Their overall records are 6-17 and 3-23, respectively.

The Toros were down early after a 14-2 run by the Warriors from 16:29 to 9:37 resulted in a score of 21-10 in the Warriors favor.  The lead reached a first half high of 15 points after two good free-throw shots by Warriors  sophomore Erin Godde.

After wrapping up the first half down by just seven points, the Toros fought to within two points with just 8:51 remaining in regulation after Nicole Zugasti layed one it to bring the score to 49-47. 

With just seven players suited up for the visitors, the Warriors struggled to hold on to their lead late in the game after two key scorers fouled out of the game.  With just three minutes to go the young Warrior team held off a battling Toro offense to capture just a four-point win.

Brown and Hillarie Perrin-Grant were golden from the free throw line with Brown shooting a perfect 6-for-6 and Perrin Grant sinking 6-for-8.

The Toros also improved their shooting from the arc with six made on the night.  Freshman forward Cwinnnci Lobaugh with her 3-for-7 effort, while Lyndsay Heard banked two herself. 

Although the Warriors out-rebounded the Toros 40-33, Cal State Dominguez Hills managed to out-play the Warriors in every other aspect.

The Toros snagged more steals (8), dished more assists (13), and blocked more Warriors shots (4).  Leading in steals was Lobaugh with three followed by Perrin-Grant and Porcha Davis with two apiece.  Perrin-Grant led with five assists, with Davis and Nikki Boutte' assisting four times each.  Four Toros tallied a block shot as well in the loss.

Leading for Cal State Stanislaus in its win was sophmore post Lauren Godde with 15 points and a whopping 19 rebounds.  Jameiz Terrell contributed with 13 points before fouling out of the game. 

The Toros return to the Torodome tomorrow night for their final home contest of the season, taking on the Chico State Wilcats.  Cal State Dominguez Hills will also be recognizing their seniors and wrapping up their Think Pink week on Saturday night.
