Toros Take League Opener Over San Francisco State, 11-4

Box Score
CARSON -- Junior Sean Wardour pitched six innings allowing one run before the Toro offense exploded for an 8-run sixth inning, and that combination proved lethal in CSUDH's 11-4 win over San Francisco State to open the four-game league series.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 3-1, 1-0 CCAA, while the Gators fall to 1-4, 0-1 CCAA.

Wardour was in trouble early after the visitors scored three in their first inning at-bat, where the score remained until the sixth.

In that inning, the Toros took the lead for good with a six-run outburst, the big blows courtesy of 2RBI doubles by Chris Vopinek and Ricky Vasquez, and a Nick Plantz 2RBI single.

Junior Hector Gomez entered in the 7th and allowed a Gator run, only to have CSUDH answer in its at-bat on a Carlos Avila RBI single.

CSUDH put the game away one inning later with a two spot on a Danny Haley 2RBI scorcher into left-center.

Carlos Avila led the Toros with a 3-for-5, 2RBI performance, with Rodela ending the afternoon as the only other Toro with multiple hits.

In contrast, five Toros finished with two RBI on the day.

Sean Wardour finished his day scattering five hits and allowing just one earned run, fanning six against two walks.

The two teams continue their four-game set with a double-header tomorrow, with first pitch of game one set for 11:00 am on Toro Field.
