Toros Return Home Winless After 55-46 Loss to Seawolves

Box Score

ROHNERT PARK -- Porcha Davis led the Toros with another double digit night of 12 points, but it was not enough to pull past Sonoma State in the 55-46 loss Saturday night.

The Toros remain at the bottom of the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings with a record of 2-16, 3-22 overall.  The Seawolves improve to 7-11 in conference play and 9-13 overall.

Much like Friday night at Humboldt State, the Toros were down from the tip-off.  Although the Seawolves took an early lead, they were only able to gain a lead of six points at 11:22 after Aly Conway sank two free throws after being fouled by Cal State Dominguez Hills' Lyndsay Heard

The Toros battled all the way back to tie the score at 17-17 with just 3:10 remaining in the first half when Davis made her second shot behind the arc, only to have the Seawolves answer with to take a 7-point lead over the visitors entering the half.

In the second half of play the Toros came within two points one last time after senior guard Nikki Boutte' hit a jumper at 12:54.  Sonoma State answered right back with a 10-3 run to bring the lead to 10 points and and the Toros were unable to come within eight points the remainder of regulation.

Davis shot 4-for-11 from the floor, 2-3 in three-pointers, and 2-for-3 from the line.  Three Toros in Hillarie Perrin-Grant, Zipporah Brown, and Ella Rodriguez each had six points on the night.

Although the Toros were out-played defensively, Sherrie Hughes had an amazing night on the boards ripping down 13 rebounds.  Brown also contributed with eight rebounds.   Guard Perrin-Grant also had quick hands on defense with four steals.

In the low-scoring game there was also only one Sonoma State player to have double-digit points and that was Marie Sweet with 11, followed by Alyssa Ito with eight points on the night.

Sweet, along with Seawolves center Aly Conway led the Sonom a State team with eight boards.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team will return home for their final two home matches, facing Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night.  Saturday night the Toros will be recognizing their seniors along with holding their Think Pink Fundraiser night to raise awareness about breast cancer, as well as collecting canned foods for those in need.  Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. both nights.
