Toros Fall in Exhibition Against San Diego Christian

CARSON -- The "Molly Goodenbour" era for the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball program unofficially began tonight as the Toros fell to San Diego Christian College, 57-52, in an exhibition contest.  Julia Poecksteiner and Jamie Robinson shared game-high scoring honors with 15 points each.

The Toros fell behind as far as 23-12 with 6:33 left in the first half, where the lead dwindled to 32-22 entering the break.

After the break, SDCC extended its lead to 15 just five minutes into the second half, only to have buckets by Joi Bertrand and lightning-quick Denisha Lundy cut into the lead.

Consecutive buckets by Poecksteiner and Robinson brought the Toros to within 7 at 45-38 at the 10:37 mark, with the duo's finding their offensive rhythm getting the Toros to within a bucket at the 3:56 mark.

But that's as close as the Toros would come to earning the exhibition decision, as SDCC free throws down the stretch kept the Toros at arm's length in the eventual 5-point win.

Robinson and Poecksteiner combined for 13-of-29 shooting from the field as the Toros shot just 34.4% as a squad.  SDCC, meanwhile, connected at 39.3% in the evenly-played contest, with Hannah Miller's 13 and Chardonnay Shula's 11 pacing the Lady Hawks.

The Toros will conclude their exhibition season next Thursday hosting Biola University, with first tip set for a 7:30 pm start.
