Toros Fall in 44-43 Heartbreaker at CS San Bernardino

Box Score
SAN BERNARDINO -- Junior Jamie Robinson tallied 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, but converted on just one of two foul shots with 3 ticks left in the game and the Toros trailing by two as the host Coyotes escaped with a thrilling 44-43 win tonight in San Bernardino.

With the loss, CSUDH falls to 1-4, 0-2 CCAA, while CSUSB improves to 2-2, 1-0 CCAA.

The hosts stormed out of the gate to start the game, taking an 8-0 lead over the first five minutes of play, and pushing it to 12 at 16-4 four minutes later.

CSUDH found its shooting touch minutes later, cutting its deficit to 9 on a Robinson jumper, to 7 on a Kira Demorales bucket and to 3 on consecutive Robinson hoops before CSUSB scored the final four points of the period to take a 28-21 lead into the break.

After intermission, both teams came out cold after combining for just 11 points over the first 11:47 of the second half, until a pair of Monay Lee freebies and a Breanna Garcia bucket brought the Toros to within three at 33-30 with 7:24 left, with another Lee bucket at the 1:15 mark bringing CSUDH to within one at 39-38.

The Toros, however, could never get over the hump, trailing by two after Alexcia Mack made just one of two free throws with 21 seconds left.

After Robinson rebounded her own miss after a CSUSB blocked shot and was fouled with 4 seconds left, she missed the first before making the second, allowing the Yotes to inbound the ball and run out the clock in the thriller.

Lee finished with 13 points and 8 boards in the loss as CSUDH missed on all five of its 3-point attempts while making 11-of-14 from the charity stripe (11-for-14).

CSUSB was led by Trinidee Trice's 18 points, but misfired on 7 of its 12 free throw attempts.

The Toros' roadtrip doesn't get any easier as they travel to La Jolla to take on perennial power UC San Diego tomorrow night, after the Tritons handed Cal State L.A. a convincing 70-49 loss earlier.
