Offense Erupts in 4-2 Win Over Cal Poly Pomona

Box Score
CARSON -- The Toros needed this one.  After taking a hard-fought 3-1 win over a pesky San Francisco State team two days ago, Cal State Dominguez Hills continued its momentum by earning a dominating 4-2 win over visiting Cal Poly Pomona this afternoon to pick up its third-straight win, and fifth in last six games.  Miguel Vazquez began the day's deluge with the game's first goal at the 18 second mark.

With the victory, CSUDH moves to 6-5-1, 6-4 CCAA, while CPP falls to 3-6-2, 1-6-2 CCAA.

After Vazquez one-touched his shot past CPP keeper Anthony Iniguez less than 20 seconds into the contest, Jordan Hatanaka doubled CSUDH's advantage at 30:31 after squaring up and sending a bender past what looked to be a surprised Iniguez, as the keeper got a late jump on Hatanaka's screamer from 25 yards out.

In the second half, Aaron Salazar dropped off his ball to Jio Santana at the 18 yard mark, where Santana sent a low line drive past Iniguez for a 3-0 count, all but putting the game away.

CPP replied with a goal at 68:48 courtesy of a Jesus Mitre to Brandon Cortez connection, but CSUDH answered back 12 minutes later.

In that sequence, Andrew Johnson sent a cross to an oncoming Connor Archambault, whose header flick bounced off the post and right to the feet of Jose Vaca, who tapped in the sitter past the re-directed Iniguez for a 4-1 lead, before CPP scored a late goal with just 59 ticks left in regulation.

The Toros outshot their opponent 20-6, including an 11-0 edge in the first half, and enjoyed an 8-to-4 advantage in corners.

Streaking to their third-straight win, CSUDH faces its most critical homestand of the year as CS San Bernardino and UC San Diego visit Carson next weekend, with first kick on Friday against the 'Yotes set for 7:00 pm.
