Men's Soccer Checks in at No. 6 in NCAA Region Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Riding a 6-match win streak and ascent up the California Collegiate Athletic Association south division, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team has checked in at No. 6 in this week's NCAA west region poll, the second poll of the season.

The top six teams from each region qualify for the NCAA postseason, with the top two seeds hosting 3-team sub-regionals, beginning either November 8 or 9 at sites to be determined.

The Toros, currently at 9-5-1 overall and 9-4 in the CCAA, have won six-straight and 8 of their last 9 contests, including a thrilling 3-2 win over arch-rival Sonoma State on October 19, in the Home Depot Center's Main Stadium.

Newcomer Aaron Salazar leads CSUDH with 6 goals and 17 points, with fellow newcomer Jio Santana chipping in 4 goals and 14 points, and Miguez Vazquez contributing a league-leading 7 assists and 13 points.

In net, junior Trey Mitchell and sophomore Juan Quiroz have combined for a 1.04 GAA, and 50 of the team's 52 saves.

Simon Fraser checks in as the top-seeded squad, with Seattle Pacific at No. 2.  Grand Canyon follows at No. 3, with Chico State and Cal State L.A. preceding the Toros for the sixth and final spot.  Notre Dame de Namur and CS Stanislaus, meanwhile, both are looking to make strides over the final weekend(s) of play for entry.

The Toros look to make it seven- and eight-straight to conlude the regular season this weekend, taking on Cal Poly Pomona on Friday before traveling to face San Francisco State on Sunday.

The top two teams in the north and south divisions qualify for the CCAA Men's Championship tournament, which begins on Friday, November 2, in Carson at Toro Stadium.
