Salazar's Double the Difference in 3-2 Win Over Sonoma State

Toros take top spot in south division with two games left in regular season

Box Score
CARSON -- Forward Aaron Salazar notched two goals against arch-rival Sonoma State as the Toros withstood a Seawolf comeback in a 3-2 win in the Home Depot Center's Main Stadium.  With the win, CSUDH's sixth-straight, the Toros improve to 9-5-1, 9-4 CCAA, and into first place in the south division.

The intensity could be felt from the first kick between the rivals, with the first of two Salazar scores heightening the game's importance.

In the sequence, Jordan Hatanaka sent his cross to Salazar, where he flicked a header over SSU keeper Beau Diaz for a 1-0 lead at 29:28.

That's where the score remained until an offensive filled second half, with SSU equaling the contest on a Taylor Varnadore header in the 50th minute.

Salazar, however, struck again in the 82nd minute after launching a 16 yard bender up and over Diaz's left shoulder, nestling in the upper V.

Junior Miguel Vazquez looked to put the game away just three minutes later after taking a rebound off a Ryan Evans' blast and putting his sitter into an empty net for a 3-1 lead with just 5:14 left in regulation.

SSU, however, launched a final push as Brenton Frame collected a loose ball in the CSUDH goalmounth, and headed his shot past 2nd-half keeper Juan Quiroz at 87:36 to cut the Seawolves' deficit to 3-2.

That would be the closest SSU would get, however, as the Toros picked up their sixth-straight win.

The Toros conclude their regular season on the road next weekend, looking to solidify their standing atop the CCAA Conference.
