Davis' 17 Points Key Toros 58-53 Win Over Cal State East Bay

Box Score
CARSON -- Junior Porcha Davis' 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field led the way as Cal State Dominguez Hills picked up a 58-53 win over visiting Cal State East Bay to snap a six-game skid.

With the win, the Toros are now 3-19 overall and 2-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.  After finishing the weekend at 0-2, the Pioneers fall to 6-13 overall, 3-10 in conference play.

The match-up between these two teams was a fight from tip-off.  The Toros took a quick 5-0 lead, but could not hold off the Pioneers for long.  With just less than 7:00 left in the first half the Pioneers took the lead for the first time, a lead they held until 3:13 when senior guard Nikki Boutte' sank a three to tie the score at 21 points before entering the break up 28-21.

Boutte' was hot from the arc hitting 2-for-4 in the first half as one of three Toro players to lead the team with six points.  Davis and Hillarie Perrin-Grant also had six points apiece.

The Toros took their momentum into the second half, maintaining their lead throughout the second half en route to a 10-point edge after Boutte' handed the ball off to Davis at 16:21 for her first three-pointer of the night.

Continuing to fight throughout the remainder of the contest, the Pioneers eventually tied the game one last time after junior Marlene MacMillan layed one in to bring a score to 48-48 with just 5:03 remaining in regulation. The late comeback just was not enough to drag the Toros down, resulting in the Toros second league win of the season.

Davis tied her career high of 17 points, matching her Deccember 3 effort in the Toros' loss to Cal State San Bernardino.  Boutte' also had a season high of nine points after shooting 3-for-5 from the outside.  Lyndsay Heard tallied 10 points for her second consecutive night to help gain the win for the Toros.

Defensively, the Toros were out-played in the key, with the Pioneers recording a team total of 37 rebounds to the Toros' 22 boards.  Zipporah Brown, who led Cal State Dominguez Hills in rebounds for the fourth-consecutive game, added six more on her weekend total.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team will hit the road for their next two contests against Cal State San Bernardino and No. 1 UC San Diego.  The Toros will face the Coyotes Friday, Feb. 3 and the Tritons Saturday, Feb. 4.  Tip-off at 5:30 pm both nights.
