Miracle Second-Half Comeback Complete in Toros 49-46 Win at Chico State

A last-minute flush by Wayne Andrews sealed tonight's stirring come-from-behind win at Chico State

CHICO -- Staring a 17-point halftime lead directly in the eyes in a firestorm known as Acker Gym, Cal State Dominguez Hills roared back by out-scoring host Chico State by 20 points in the second half to complete its improbable 49-46 win, led by Wayne Andrews' 14 points, the final two coming on a dunk with 13 seconds left to seal the win.

The win improves the Toros to 7-4 overall, and 6-3 in league play, while the Wildcats fall to 11-4, 5-4 CCAA.

On a night in which the Friday the 13th looked to swallow the Toros whole after Chico State raced to a 32-15 lead at the half, it was Cal State Dominguez Hills who put that superstition to rest after taking its first lead on a Robert Willhite jumper with 1:59 left in regulation.

After Jordan Semple countered to give the lead back to the home squad at the 1:21 mark, Willhite again showed his senior leadership by sinking another bucket 17 seconds later to give CSUDH the lead for good.

The Toros looked to put the final nail in Chico State's coffin after collecting a Damario Sims missed 3-point attempt, but a turnover gave the hosts life with 34 seconds left, trailing 47-46.

Sims again looked to take the lead with a trey, but again misfired, with Andrews securing the board.

After a Chico State foul, Andrews got behind the Wildcat defense where Myron Green delivered a perfect inbound pass, resulting in Green's final two points on the evening.

A last-second Chico State heave went awry, sealing the Toros victory.

The Toros held the Wildcats to just 28.1% shooting from the floor, compared to 41.2% for CSUDH.

Cornell Jenkins added 12 points in the win, including two triples, while a trio of Toros collected six boards each.

Flores led the hosts with 11 points, and finished as the lone Wildcat to reach double-figures.

CSUDH will look to carry tonight's momentum into Turlock tomorrow night against CS Stanislaus, which fell earlier to Cal State L.A. in a 73-65 final.
