Cal Baptist Sees Red All "Rover" in Toros 2-1 Overtime Win

Box Score
CARSON -- Senior Jordan Rover showed his leadership in a big way this afternoon by notching both scores in a 2-1 win over a game Cal Baptist squad, taking three total shots.  The win keeps the Toros perfect in 2011 at 2-0.

The visitors got on the board early as a cross by Lancer Alex Anderson scooted through the Toro defense and onto the waiting feet of Osvoldo Bastida, whose point-blank shot went through keeper Markus Dickerson's 5-hole for a 1-0 lead just 6:07 into the contest.

The Lancers nearly doubled their margin in the 44th minute when another cross was slotted through the Toro defense and past a sprawling Dickerson to give CBU a 2-to-1 edge with only defender Jordan Hatanaka standing in the way.

Faced with a decision, Hatanaka stayed on his closest attacker and cleared the ball out from deep in the Toro goalmouth.

That gave CSUDH a lift that was further aided by a red card issued to Kyle Haecker for stepping on a Toro player who was on the ground in the 53rd minute.

Bolstered by playing a man up, the Toros finally capitalized 11 minutes later as Rover took a cross from Billy Gutierrez and slotted his first goal of the season past CBU keeper Joey Pacheco for the equalizer.

That's where the score remained until overtime when Rover nearly duplicated his earlier goal by one-timing a cross into the net for the golden goal.

The Toros dominated the match statistically, out-shooting the Lancers 23-8 on the game, including 14-1 after intermission, and 6-3 on corners.

Dickerson was credited with two saves in the win, including a win and a clear on a critical 50-50 ball in the 85th minute, while Pacheco was busy making 11 saves on the night.

CSUDH, now 2-0 on the new season, opens CCAA Conference play on Friday as CS San Bernardino visits Toro Stadium, with first kick set for 7 pm.
