Toros Find the Road to Victory in Split at CS Stanislaus

Junior Josh Corrales threw a CG shutout, striking out 10 and allowing only four hits
Game One | Game Two

TURLOCK -- Cal State Dominguez Hills ended a three-game road losing streak, and it did not even require extra innings.  CSUDH took a 5-0 victory in game one over Cal State Stanislaus thanks in large part to a complete-game shutout with double digit strikeouts by Josh Corrales. CS Stanislaus won the nightcap in walk-off fashion 3-2 after the Toros led going into the last half inning.

Today's opener was the first time in four league road games that didn't require extra frames, as CSUDH had played two 13-inning and one 10-inning contest in its previous three, all losses.

The Toros got the scoring in game one started with two outs in the bottom of the second with Abel Medina starting off the inning with a single.  Following a walk and two outs, junior third baseman Ricky Vasquez staked CSUDH to a 2-0 lead with a double to left center.

Toros starting pitcher Corrales was nearly perfect through three, allowing one batter to reach base, on an error.

CSUDH's lead grew to 4-0 in the top of the sixth with a two out rally and a show of power by Drew Rodela as catcher Jonathan Keener singled and scored his second run of the game on a Rodela homer to right field.

The Toros added a run in the top of seventh while Corrales continued shutting down the Warrior bats.  He threw a complete game shutout, scattering four hits while slamming the door in the ninth by striking out the side to total 10 strikeouts for the game.

In four of the last five innings, Corrales struck out at least two batters.

Game two saw both squads score in their half of the first, with Carlos Leyva scoring on a single after leading off the game with a double.  Leyva scored the tie-breaking second run on back-to-back doubles in the top of the fifth, staking CSUDH to a 2-1 lead going into the final innings.

Toro starter David Fair went six strong, allowing only three hits, two runs and striking out three.

With one out and a runner on first in the final at-bats for the Warriors, they rallied to take a 3-2 victory thanks to single and two-run walk-off double.

Leyva led the Toros with two doubles and both runs in the second game.

Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros will attempt to salvage a road split tomorrow in Turlock, with first pitch set for 11:00am.
