Women's Basketball Drops 55-43 Season Finale at Sonoma State

Box Score
ROHNERT PARK -- In their season finale playing in a must-win game for host Sonoma State, Cal State Dominguez Hills gave the Seawolves everything they could ask for with the game in doubt until the moments of a 55-43 SSU victory.  Freshman Hillarie Perrin-Grant finished off her season with a double-digit scoring effort, notching 11 points and three rebounds.

With the win, SSU locked up the eighth and final spot in next week's upcoming CCAA Championship Tournament.

Both teams started out on fire from behind the arc, with five of the first seven made baskets coming from behind the arc.  CSUDH scored the first three points with SSU responding with a 16-5 run to take hold of the game.  Sonoma State's lead would hover around 10 points for the rest of the half with the teams going into halftime at 30-20 in the Seawolf favor.  Junior point guard Nikki Boutte' sank two 3-pointers in the half for six points and four rebounds.

The second half was more of the same as the Toros could not close the gap, but also played well enough that the Seawolves failed to distance themselves.  CSUDH closed the gap to only seven at 49-42 on a pair of Ashley Hudson free throws with 6:28 left in the game.  SSU played well over the final 6:28 and never allowed the Toros to get any closer, taking the game by a 55-43 final.

For the game the Seawolves dominated the offensive boards 18-7 while both teams shot below 28% from the field.

Next year, the Toros will return all but three of their players from this year's squad, looking to regain the form that made them perennial contenders.
