POMONA -- Sitting on a six-game losing streak, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros (4-8, 0-5 CCAA) fell in a rematch of the season opener 6-5 against Cal Poly Pomona in 13 innings.  The CSUDH bullpen could not hold a 5-2 lead going into the eighth inning.  Senior Shane Youngdale went seven strong, allowing only four hits and two runs, both of them coming on big flies.

Appearing in his first game since last Friday, leadoff monster Carlos Leyva got things going for the Toros in the top of the first.  After a leadoff single, Leyva was sacrificed, stole third and scored the game's first run on a two-out RBI single by Abel Medina to give CSUDH an early 1-0 lead.

CSU Dominguez Hills added two runs on another two-out double by Kyle Pond, scoring Medina and Kevin Pillar to give the Toros a 3-0 lead in the top of the third.  CPP (8-3, 2-3 CCAA) did close the lead back to one at 3-2 on a two-run HR in the bottom half of the inning.

Over the next three innings neither team scored a run, leaving the score at 3-2 CSUDH going into the final third of the game.  Left fielder Jose Jauregui started the top of the seventh off right with a double to center, later scoring, along with Pillar, on a left center double to give the Toros a 5-2 lead after seven innings of play.

In the bottom of the eighth the game swung in the Broncos' favor as they tied up the game at five on three doubles and two hit batters in the inning. The game went into extra innings as neither team could score in the ninth.

After CSUDH stranded a one-out double in the top of the tenth, CPP hit two straight singles in the bottom, eventually loading the bases with only one out.  Sophomore Andrew Klausmeier escaped the jam by getting two fielders choices, forcing the game to continue to the eleventh.

With the score still tied at five going into the bottom of the 13th, the Broncos ended the game with three straight two-out hits.

For the game, Leyva, Medina and Drew Rodela each had a team-high three hits on the afternoon.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros will continue their CCAA series against Cal Poly Pomona Friday, February 25, with the first pitch set for 12:00 noon.
