No. 13 Toros Close Regular Season Homestand With 72-57 Win Over CS East Bay on "Senior Day"

Box Score
CARSON — Thirteenth-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills withstood a five minute scoreless stretch to begin tonight's final regular season game in the Torodome, overcoming the emotion and ceremony associated with tonight's "Senior Night" to pull away from visiting Cal State East Bay in a 72-57 win, highlighted by a breakout performance by Brian Gee.

After honoring seniors Zareh Zargaryan, Tim McLaurin, Marcquintice Davis, Michael Cox and James Cawthorne in a pre-game ceremony, the Toros proceeded to misfire on their first six shots before getting on the board at the 14:54 mark to answer CSUEB's 6-0 run to start the game.

That bucket by Zargaryan spurred CSUDH to a 25-7 run over the next 10 minutes, giving control of the game en route to a 34-23 lead entering the break.

The lead hovered around the 10-point mark to begin the second half, before two Zargaryan free throws pushed it to 15 with 14:10 on the clock, and to its largest margin of 18 on a jumper by Cornell Jenkins, the first of three 18-point leads in the game.

Gee scored seven of his team-high 13 points after the break, including his only three of the half with 1:24 left in regulation to give CSUDH a 68-52 lead.

With just 65 ticks left in the game, Cox, Davis and McLaurin followed Zargaryan's lead to the bench to a rousing ovation, allowing the Toros to clear their bench for the final minute of play.

Cox and Davis finished with 12 points each, with Cox chipping in a team-high eight boards.

CSUEB's Mark Samuels led all scorers with 14 points in the loss, as the Pioneers shot just 33.3% from the field in the loss.

The Toros, now 20-4, 16-4 CCAA, will conclude their regular season league schedule next week, beginning with a date in Arcata against 10th-ranked Humboldt State.
