Toros Bitten by the Gators in a 62-47 Loss

Box Score
CARSON -- With the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros and San Francisco State Gators sporting the same records, they seemed to be very similar teams.  Saturday's matchup showed that the assumption favored the visitors tonight.  The Toros battled the Gators to a 62-47 loss in which they could not muster enough offense for the second night in a row. Junior Tiffany Smith led the team in points, 11, and rebounds, 6, all of them coming off the bench.

CSUDH's defense came to play as they held the Gators to only a 24% FG percentage from the field in the first half.  The problem was that the biggest difference was the shot attempts, eight more for SFSU, and the late half run by the Gators (11-2). CSU Dominguez Hills led briefly in the second half but went cold as San Francisco State heated up.  Smith helped the Toro bench score 15 points in the first half thanks to her nine points.

Coming out of the locker room the Gators put severe pressure on the Toros on both ends of the floor and again the Toros didn't respond. SFSU blitzed CSUDH by shooting 44% from the field in the second half en route to the 62-47 outcome.

For the game, all but seven of the Gators' 62 points came from their starters while CSUDH's starters only scored 17 of the team's 47 on the night.  CSU Dominguez Hills lost the rebounding battle 52-41 while also losing the steals battle 12-2.  Junior guard Nikki Boutte' led the starters with eight points, four rebounds and four assists.

Cal State Dominguez Hills returns to the "Dave Yanai Court" for its final homestand, beginning February 18 against UC San Diego at 5:30pm.  The game will be nationally televised live on the Toro Sports Network online at www.GoToros.com/live.
