Coyotes Pull Out 63-57 Win Over Toros in CCAA Action

Box Score
CARSON -- Junior Porcha Davis tied for team-high honors with 17 points, but visiting Cal State San Bernardino withstood a furious Toro challenge at the end of regulation en route to a hard-fought 63-57 win tonight in Carson.

With the loss, the Toros remain winless in league play at 0-2, and at 1-7 overall with a non-conference contest hosting Cal State San Marcos looming on Saturday at 5:30 pm, which can be heard live on the Toro Sports Network by clicking here.

Coming off a loss at Cal State L.A. yesterday, the Coyotes took a 19-9 lead over the first 10 minutes of play, with the double-figure edge keeping the Toros at arm's length en route to a 36-27 CSUSB halftime lead.

The Toros cut into their deficit after the break as a Zipporah Brown lay-up against her former team brought CSUDH to within 44-39 at the 15:56 mark, before a Cwynnci Lobaugh lay-up three minutes later cut CSUSB's lead to 46-43.

An 11-6 Coyote run, however, regained momentum for the visitors at 57-49, before the Toros came within 59-57 on a Siedah Wilson bucket with 21 ticks left.

That would be as close as CSUDH would get as four-consecutive foul shots sealed the Toros' fate in the 63-57 loss.

Jessica Dela Cruz paced Davis for game-high scoring honors, with Angela Streets adding 16 and Kenisha McKee chipping in 11 in the Coyote win.

Brown added 14 and Wilson 9, with Brown tallying a team-best 8 boards in the loss.
