Pioneers Hand Toros Eighth-Straight Loss in 62-50 Decision

HAYWARD -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team leaves the Bay Area still in search of its first CCAA win after falling to Cal State East Bay 62-50 on Sunday afternoon.

The Toros record is now 1-10 overall and 0-4 in conference play.  This game marked the Pioneers' first conference win as they improve to 1-3 in league play, and 4-5 overall.

Porcha Davis led the Toros offensively and defensively collecting 16 points and four steals on the afternoon. 

The first half was pretty even competition with three lead changes.  Cal State East Bay led off with its lead never exceeding five points.  The Toros were able to take control of the game, 15-14,  at 10:26 after a made layup by senior Brittni Hulsizer

Toro Lyndsay Heard then brought Dominguez Hills to a six-point edge after a three-pointer at the 7:25 mark.  The Pioneers then went on a 16-4 run to wrap up the first half.

Cal State East Bay took its offensive strength to the second half, extending its run to 26-4 after scoring 10-straight.  The Toros were unable to reach within the seven points of the Pioneers the remainder of the game.

Ashley Hudson led the Toros with nine first-half points, but was held to none in the second.  Senior center Sherrie Hughes contributed offensively and defensively as well with a total of nine points and a team-leading six rebounds for the Toros.

Micah Walker, a freshman guard for the Pioneers, led her team with 16 points and three assists.  Hege Bilkra and Lauren Lucchesi also had an offensive afternoon with 14 points and 10 points, respectively. 

The Toros' next contest will be at Cal State Monterey Bay on Monday night, with first tip set for 5:30 p.m.
