Different Team, Same Story in 67-53 Loss at Cal State L.A.

Box Score
LOS ANGELES -- Having started contests notoriously slow en route to a 1-8 start to begin the season, today was no different as the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros faced a 25-point halftime deficit before falling to cross-town rival Cal State L.A. 67-53 this afternoon in the Eagles Nest.

With the loss, CSUDH's seventh-straight, the Toros dip to 1-9, 0-3 CCAA.

The Toros managed just 16 points in the first 20 minutes of play compared to a whopping 41 by the hosts, putting the contest away early.

A Tessondra Williams bucket to begin the contest gave CSULA a 2-0 edge, with the Toros keeping it close early after a Sherrie Hughes lay-up brought CSUDH to 10-7 at the 15:59 mark.

The Golden Eagles then went on a 24-7 run over the next 12 minutes to push their lead to 34-14 with 3:25 left in the first half, before entering the locker room up 41-16 after an Erika Ruiz triple that followed a Toro turnover.

CSUDH scored the second half's four points for a quick boost, and cut its deficit to 45-30 on an Ashley Hudson bucket at the 12:50 mark, and to 51-41 on the second of two Brittni Hulsizer foul shots.

The Golden Eagles, however, continued to answer in keeping the Toros at wing's length, as their advantage never dipped below double-figures the rest of the contest.

Williams led all scorers with 20 points that included 9-of-12 from the foul line, while Hughes and Porcha Davis tallied 8 points apiece for the Toros in the loss.

As a team, CSUDH shot a better percentage from the field (38.9% to 36.7%) and tallied more rebounds (42 to 32), but turned the ball over 14 more times and was out-scored at the foul line 28 to 10 in the loss.

The Toros will continue CCAA play on the road next weekend as they face Cal State East Bay on Friday, December 18.
