Late Run Spurs Cougars to 54-43 Win Over Toros

CARSON -- Although taking an early lead and tying the game three times, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team was unable to hold off an offensively strong Cal State San Marcos team in tonight's 54-43 loss to the Cougars.  Siedah Wilson paced CSUDH with 8 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

After the loss, the Toros record falls to 1-8 overall. Cal State San Marcos improves to 6-8.

The Toros play at CCAA cross-town rival Cal State L.A. tormorrow at 2 p.m.  The Toro Sports Network will broadcast the game online at www.GoToros.com/Live, starting at 1:45 p.m. with Toros GameDay.

Cal State Dominguez Hills took a quick 3-0 lead but was unable to hold the margin past five points.  The largest deficit in the first ten minutes of regulation was at 12:21 when the Cougars took a 13-8 lead over the Toros.  

The Toros eventually tied the score once again at 13-13 at 10:40, which then led to a San Marcos 17-10 run to end the first half leading 30-23.

In the second half Dominguez Hills just could not hold off San Marcos junior guard Sidney Dobner who scored 18 points, 16 of which came in the second half, while scoring its last point of the game at the 4:43 mark on a foul shot by Divinity Bradley before a 10-0 run to close the game accounted for the final tally.

Contributing offensively for the Toros were Zipporah Brown, Sherrie Hughes, and Hillarie Perrin-Grant, with six points apiece.  Defensively Porcha Davis, Lyndsay Heard, and Hughes each snagged six rebounds for the Toros.

Justine Chacon, also played a large role in the Cougar win with 11 points while Dobner and Chacon led the visitors on the boards with eight and seven rebounds, respectively.

After tomorrow's contest against Cal State L.A. the Toros will travel to Cal State East Bay on Dec. 18 and Cal State Monterey Bay on Dec. 19 before returning home on Friday, Dececmber 30, for a CCAA doubleheader against Cal State L.A. with the women's game at 1 p.m. and the men's contest at 3 o'clock.
