Broncos Roll in Sweep Over Toros

POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona used a .330 to .130 hitting advantage and 14 less errors to take a 25-16, 27-25, 25-17 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills tonight in Kellogg Gym.  Junior Delea Pursel led all hitters with 11 kills and a .625 hitting percentage.

With the loss, CSUDH remains in search of its first league win, dropping to 1-22, 0-19 CCAA.

The Toros kept the opening set even with the hosts, tying seven times early before the Broncos took a 17-10 lead on a Karissa Lagmay kill, and used that cushion en route to the 25-16 victory.

Set two saw CSUDH stay with CPP point for point late into the session, tying as late as 25-all down the stretch.  A Bronco kill and Toro error on consecutive points, however, gave the hosts the two-point win and a 2-0 lead.

After the 10-minute break, the Broncos took control of set three early en route to a 20-8 lead before the Toros scored 9 of the next 13 points to make it a game at 24-17, until Courteny Alberi sealed the match with her 6th and final kill.

Pursel made just one error on the night en route to her second-best hitting effort of the year, leading all attackers and contributing 4 digs in the loss.

As a team, the taller Bronco line-up boasted a 4.0 to 0.0 block edge, a stat that contributed to the difference in errors committed.

The Toros continue their South Division road trip tomorrow night as they face San Francisco State for a 7:00 pm first serve.
