No. 24 Toros Win Fifth-Straight After 2-1 Decision at Humboldt State

Box Score
ARCATA -- Senior Jordan Rover completed visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills' comeback with a rebound score in the 66th minute as the Toros forged a hard-fought 2-1 win over host Humboldt State this afternoon, giving CSUDH its fifth-straight win.

With the win, the 24th-ranked Toros find themselves with the league's best record and atop the CCAA's South Division.

In a battle of two teams heading in opposite directions after the Toros entered today's contest with four-straight wins and the 'Jacks with four-straight losses, it was the hosts who struck first as Zach Hammond collected a long throw, dribbled past a couple Toro defeners and slotted his shot past CSUDH keeper Markus Dickerson for a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute to capitalize on HSU's 10-6 shot advantage in the first session.

That's where the score remained entering the second half with the Toros answered as Carlos Garcia began the equalizing sequence by stripping a 'Jack defender and dishing to Dimitri Aurelus, who beat keeper Kyle Verle in the 56th minute.

CSUDH's comeback became complete 10 minutes later as Rover rebounded a blast Verle was unable to collect, and sent his shot past the fallen keeper for the 2-1 lead.

The Toros forged an 8-4 shot advantage after intermission en route to an 8-2 corner kick edge in the win.

Dickerson saved 7 shots compared to Verle's 8, as the Toros picked up their fifth-straight win for the first stretch this year, and the first since opening the 2010 campaign with five-straight victories.

CSUDH, now with the league's top overall and CCAA record at 8-2-1, 6-2-1, visits arch-rival Sonoma State on Sunday.
