Brandt Bucks Broncos in 2-1 Double Overtime Win

POMONA -- Freshman Connor Brandt notched his second game-winning goal in three days, capitalizing on a Cal Poly Pomona turnover at the top of the box in the second overtime and drilling his goal over Bronco keeper Andrew Todd for the golden goal to give CSUDH its fourth-straight win.

The win moves the Toros into a tie with the Broncos for first place in the south division, and gives CSUDH three-straight wins over Cal Poly Pomona after sweeping the regular season series last year.

In front of an announced crowd of 407 spectators anticipating a hotly-contested battle between southern California schools, both teams gave the crowd what they expected, combining for 13 shots, 3 corners, 4 saves and 19 fouls in the first half.

A scoreless first session lasted just 28 minutes before a pair of cautions issued to the Broncos gave Billy Gutierrez a penalty kick opportunity at 28:07.

A save by CPP's Todd only delayed the inevitable as Henry Calistro collected the rebound and slid it by Todd for a 1-0 Toro lead.

The second period saw CSUDH increase its offensive aggressiveness en route to a 13-7 shot advantage, but it was the host Broncos who found the back of the net in the 62nd minute after a through ball by Fabian Perez found Luis Gonzales on a breakaway, who beat keeper Markus Dickerson for the equalizer.

After the first overtime session saw 5 combined shots go for naught, Brandt worked his magic in the second extra period after stealing the ball at the top of the box and lifting it over Todd for the game-winner.

The Toros out-shot the Broncos 25-16 for the match, and notched 6 corners compared to CPP's 2. Todd made 8 saves in the loss compared to 3 for Dickerson.

CSUDH, now 7-2-1, 5-2-1 CCAA, continue road league action next weekend as the Toros visit Humboldt State and arch-rival Sonoma State.
