CSUDH at No. 3 in First NCAA Region Poll of Year

Jordan Rover leads a balanced Toro attack

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Bolstered by two wins last weekend to bring its win streak to two entering this Friday's "Homecoming" showdown against CCAA South co-leader Cal Poly Pomona, as well as its re-entry into the NSCAA top 25 at No. 16, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team checked in at No. 3 in the first NCAA West Region poll of the year, released this morning.

The top four teams from each region qualify for the NCAA postseason, with the site to be announced on Sunday, November 6.

GNAC school Seattle Pacific checks in at the top spot and is followed by Chico State, which handed the Toros a 5-0 drubbing in Carson earlier this year and is coming off a 1-0 overtime win at co-CCAA South Division leader Cal Poly Pomona last Sunday.

Following the Toros is Grand Canyon at No. 4, with Cal State L.A., CPP, CS Stanislaus and Sonoma State taking up the final four spots, with the Toros claiming the most wins amongst all eight schools with 10.

CSUDH is led by senior Jordan Rover's 6 goals and 14 points, with Miguel Vazquez's 4 scores and 3 scores each by Billy Gutierrez and Henry Calistro helping lead the offensive charge.

In fact, Vazquez notched 3 of his scores in last weekend's road sweep at CS San Bernardino and UC San Diego, earning the sophomore midfielder his first career Wilson/CCAA Player of the Week nod.

Junior keeper Markus Dickerson, meanwhile, has sports a 1.15 GAA, and sits tied for the CSUDH all-time lead in career shutouts after a blanking at San Francisco State on September 30.

The road to the CCAA tournament hits an apex this Friday as Cal Poly Pomona visits Toro Stadium after the Broncos suffered a head-to-head double-overtime loss to the Toros on October 2, the fourth win in a year-best 5-game win streak.

CSUDH, at 10-3-1, 8-3-1 CCAA, possesses the best overall record in the CCAA, and is immersed in a 3-way tie for the best league mark.

First kick against the No. 6 in the west Broncos on Friday's "Think Pink" night is set for 7:00 pm, with the match being broadcast on the Toro Sports Network online at www.GoToros.com/live starting at 6:40 pm.  Marc Serber and David Smock
will call the action live from Toro Stadium, at the Home Depot Center's Track & Field Facility.
