Toros Cannot Overcome the Chico State Wildcats in 55-42 Loss

Box Score
CHICO -- Despite battling throughout against the western powerhouse Chico State Wildcats, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros could not find the victory, losing by a 55-42 final. Entering Acker Gym where visitors have only won 10 of 85 in the past six years was a tough task made even tougher after committing 24 turnovers. Junior Ashley Hudson was perfect from the free throw line (7-of-7), scoring 11 points while grabbing seven rebounds.

The game was very back and forth for most of the half as neither team led by more than three, with seven ties. However with the score tied at 22, Chico State held the Toros without a field goal for the rest of the half while scoring five points themselves. Going into the locker room CSUDH was only behind 27-22, but losing the turnover battle 15 to seven.  It was a team effort as seven different players scored a field goal, and no one had more than five points.

CSU Dominguez Hills' first seven points in the second half came from the free throw line as they did not allow CSUC's lead to grow beyond the halftime deficit of five points.  But just like in the first half, as soon as the Toros were ready to inch closer, the Wildcats would push them away. With the score 33-29 with 13:34 left in the game, Chico State scored eight of the next 10 points to create some breathing room. CSUDH could not overcome the double digit deficit and eventually fell by a 55-42 final.

For the game the Toros hit only 14 of their 50 shots from the field, compared to the 41% for the Wildcats. CSUDH dominated the rebounding battle (41-30) as well as the number of free throws attempted (16-8).

Junior Sherrie Hughes had a game-high 10 rebounds while adding five points. Fellow junior Jessica Cannon scored six and grabbed six boards.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros will return to action Saturday night against Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock, CA at 5:30pm.
