Toros Chopped Down by Humboldt State in a 75-60 Final

CARSON -- Against a hot-shooting Humboldt State Lumberjack team, the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros could not muster enough offense to find victory, falling 75-60. The Toros never led but made sure to keep the final in doubt until the final minutes. Junior Nikki Boutte' scored 21 points along with four rebounds and four assists.

Despite the statistics favoring HSU, the Toros were only down 33-27 going into the locker room. Things started out rough as the Lumberjacks put CSUDH down 8-0 to start the game. CSU Dominguez Hills would inch back, getting within one at 26-25 with 4:26 left on an Ashley Hudson jumper. HSU would pull away over the final 4:26 of the half behind 12 points from Jeanette Dewitt. Junior point guard Nikki Boutte' led the Toros with eight points to go along with three rebounds and two assists.

CSUDH came out on a quick 5-0 run to make it a one point game at 33-32 but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way. The Lumberjacks would pull away thanks to a 21-8 run and never relinquished control of the game. Incredibly Humboldt State shot 16-27 from the field equaling 59.3%, compared to 43.3% for the Toros.

For the game HSU shot 55% compared to only 36% for the hosts. Junior Ashley Hudson managed 10 points and six rebounds. Fellow junior Brittini Hulsizer scored eight and grabbed six rebounds.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros return to action next Friday January 28 on the road against Chico State.
