CARSON -- Sophomore Andre Turoldo connected on a bender from 25 yards out in the 86th minute to give No. 6 Cal State Dominguez Hills a 1-1 tie against Vanguard University in a physical contest that saw eight cautions issued, four on each side.

The game was scoreless until the 33rd minute when the Vanguard offense used a heady play, literally, to notch the game's first score.

After VU's Andrew Casco sent a pass to Alejandro Lopez in the left corner, Lopez sent a cross that Kevin Cornwall timed perfectly, heading it past a stretched out Markus Dickerson to give the Lions the early lead.

That's where the score remained until late in the contest when Turoldo collected a loose ball after a scrum and sent a screamer around a sea of players donning both Cardinal and white, and just to the left of keeper Trevor Herrera and into the back of the net.

The Toros tallied a 5-2 shot advantage in the extra periods, but had to settle for the tie to give both teams identical 1-0-1 records.

CSUDH kicks off CCAA Conference action next Friday as the Toros travel to Cal State East Bay for a kick-off slated at 7:00pm.
