Defense Key as Toros Fall 3-0 to Gators' Strong Floor Presence

SAN FRANCISCO -- Defense, not offense, was the name of the game as the host Gators out-dug the Toros by 55-33 margin, ultimately sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills in a CCAA Conference contest.  With seven digs, Elizabeth Krieger led the Toro effort, also landing five kills.

Putting down 93 attempts, just shy of SFSU's 104, the Toros were met with staunch defense as the Gators stopped 55 attempts in their tracks, 18 digs coming way of Sarah Kurfess.

The visitors struggled to find an offensive groove in set one, coming away with .032 hitting before a 25-15 loss.

Elaine Hicks capped the Toros' biggest run of the set, landing a kill to bring the Toros up from 23-11 to 23-15 before the final.

With more of the same in the second, the Toros fell in a 25-16 decision behind their first and only negative hitting effort at -.029.

Revived from the break, the Toros kept it close in the third, grabbing the lead once before going on a four-point run to cap the night before the 25-20 final mark.

Both Hicks and Krieger landed five kills each with Hicks adding six digs to Krieger's seven.

Taking over assist duties, Olivia White led the way with 10 assists while both Elayne Greer and Hicks grabbed two blocks apiece.

Now 1-9 on the season and 1-4 in the CCAA, the Toros will travel to Cal State Monterey Bay tomorrow to take on the Otters at 7:00pm.  Live stats and video of the match are available here.
