STOCKTON -- Playing its second and third elimination games in two days, the No. 25 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros pulled out all the stops in a game one 6-3 win with four home runs in taking down the No. 1 Tritons of UC San Diego, highlighted by Andrew Baslow's (pictured) 3RBI blast in the third, only to have the Tritons bounce back with an 8-3 win in the late game to take the CCAA Title.

"I am proud of all these guys," said tournament MVP Baslow after the game.

"Coming back and playing a great game against UCSD like we did requires a lot of heart and mental toughness but what makes me proud is we believe that we can go on the field and win."

For seven straight games the Toros have been unable to figure out the Tritons staff, a problem that was nowhere present in the day's opener as a quartet in the Cardinal & Gold sent balls long in the win.

Aside from Baslow's 3RBI blast, Kyle Pond, Brian Sturgis and Abel Medina came up big at the dish with solo shots.

Seeing action in his first ever start of the 2010 season and sixth of his career, Matt Phillips held the Tritons to two runs, scattering six hits and fanning two batters in 5.1 innings of duty.

Freshman sensation Andrew Klausmeier hurled 2.1 innings, allowing only one hit while also fanning two of his own.

Playing four games in the past two days took its toll on the Toros bullpen, a fact that surfaced in CSUDH's second game of the day against the top-ranked team in the nation.

"Five games in three days is a lot to ask of our pitching staff and our players," said head coach Murphy Su'a after the game.

"They competed quite well in the tournament against the No. 1 team in the nation, and we have learned alot in this tournament and that will be our best advantage into regionals."

Though not getting a hit, Steve Carrillo drove in two of the Toros' three runs, one on a sac fly and the other a sac bunt.

With four Toro hurlers taking the hill, the loss went to starter David Fair who fanned two batters and put across four runs on five hits in three innings of work.

Turning two three times throughout the day from the field, the Toro infield increased its double-play total to 65 on the season, the current CSUDH record.

For one Toro it was the end of a monumental streak as Kevin Pillar went 0-for2 in game one, getting hit by a pitch and intentionally walked in his final at-bat en route to a 2-for-6 effort on the day, ending his NCAA D-II record hitting streak at 54 games, breaking the previous mark of 49.

The Toros have now been to the title game twice and have completed their third appearance in the 12 years of the tournament's existence.

With the CCAA tournament in its past, CSUDH looks forward the NCAA West Region Tournament, from May 13-16.  The official announcement on game times, seedings and locations will be announced by the NCAA tomorrow.
